From the earliest days of the coronavirus pandemic Dr. Fauci pushed the far-fetched conspiracy theory that the virus spilled over from bats to humans in a Wuhan wet market.
Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, Donald Trump, and many others believed the far more likely possibility that the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology where they conducted research on coronaviruses and had a history of shoddy security practices.
One of the lab leak theory proponents was Trump’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield.
But Dr. Fauci was determined to squash any exploration of the lab leak theory and excluded Dr. Redfield from COVID calls.
In an appearance on Fox News Dr. Redfield blasted Fauci and National Institutes of Health head Dr. Francis Collins for suppressing any investigation of the lab leak theory.
Dr. Redfield pointed out how illogical it was for COVID-19 — which came from the same family of viruses like SARS and MERS which did not easily jump from human to human — to spill over from animals to humans.
“Well, you know, I do think I make a compelling argument for the reasons why we have to seriously consider the lab leak. I do believe that there was a concerted effort by Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins to make sure that no one really focused on the lab leak and that we focused on natural evolution. Again, I really mention that with SARS and MERS that did come through a bat through natural spillover, and those viruses never did learned how to efficiently transmit human-to-human. This virus was very different. It had high efficiency of human-to-human transmission, which to me meant as a virologist that virus had to be educated how to infect humans more efficiently,” Dr. Redfield began.
Dr. Redfield explained that Drs. Fauci and Collins wanted to maintain good relations with the scientists in Communist China because Fauci and Collins believed in funding gain-of-function research around the world.
“Collins said we had to maintain scientific harmony with our colleagues around the world, including in China. And that we didn’t want to have any disruption. Obviously, I’m of a different point of view. I’m of the point of view that this pandemic, unfortunately, it was actually the result of science,” Dr. Redfield added.
Dr. Redfield warned Americans that the type of gain-of-function research Fauci and Collins funded in the Wuhan Institute of Virology represented a grave threat to humanity and that the truth of the matter is the COVID pandemic resulted from this type of risky science experiment.
“I have used the term before scientific arrogance. The scientific community never believed this gain-of-function research could get out of control. Unfortunately, I think eventually we will all come to learn that this pandemic was a direct consequence of scientific experiments that were done to increase the infectivity, the transmissibility and the pathogenicity of this pathogen which, unfortunately, and I do believe accidentally, escaped from the Wuhan laboratory sometime between August and October of 2019,” Dr. Redfield continued.
Dr. Fauci had personal reasons for wanting to close down anyone thinking the lab leak theory was how COVID started.
And it’s because Fauci likely worried that if people knew the truth about the origins of the pandemic, they would blame Fauci for how it started.
