Donald Trump Will Not Be Happy About What This Top Ally Said Behind Closed Doors

Donald Trump is facing a very different political environment in 2024 than in 2016 or 2020.

Trump can’t count on previous supporters.

Donald Trump will not be happy about what this top ally said behind closed doors.

As Black Eye Politics reports:

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is running for a fourth term.

Grassroots conservatives want accountability for the underwhelming midterm election performance.

And McDaniel — who is Mitt Romney’s niece — is one of the party leaders conservatives would like to replace.

McDaniel served as Republican National Committee chairwoman since 2017 and oversaw all the election losses in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Trump’s lawyer Harmeet Dhillon ran against McDaniel and secured the support of multiple Republican state party delegations.

GOP state parties in Arizona, Texas, and others also issued votes of no confidence in McDaniel’s leadership.

But McDaniel is pulling every string in the book to stay on running the Republican National Committee.

And that includes telling the 168 Republican National Committee members who vote on the chair that she is the only person who can convince Donald Trump not to run third-party if he loses the GOP nomination in 2024.

The Washington Post exclusively reported:

Republican Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, facing a surprisingly aggressive challenge to her leadership, has argued in recent weeks that she is best positioned to prevent former president Donald Trump from forming a third party if he fails to win the 2024 GOP presidential nomination next year, according to multiple people involved in the conversations.

She made the comments as she campaigned privately among the 168 voting members of the Republican National Committee to win reelection to another two-year term next week at a party meeting in California, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private exchanges. A person close to McDaniel said she has spoken about the need to make sure all the likely candidates for president, including detractors of Trump, support the eventual nominee.

When Mitch McConnell wanted to convict Trump in the January 6 impeachment hoax Trump floated the idea of forming the Patriot Party and taking his supporters elsewhere.

Trump’s base is not the entirety of the Republican Party.

But it is a significant majority.

And if Trump ran third-party the GOP cannot win election.

Trump previously handpicked McDaniel to serve as Republican National Committee chairwoman back in 2017.

Previous Chairman Reince Priebus left to become Trump’s first chief of staff.

Trump selected McDaniel because she was the Michigan GOP chair and Trump’s win in the Wolverine State proved decisive over Hillary Clinton.

Even now Trump is remaining neutral in the Republican National Committee chair race.

Trump is staying out of the race even as McDaniel spreads unfounded gossip about Trump running third-party in 2022.
