During the 2020 campaign, Joe Biden claimed he was just a transitional figure.

But no one thought the transition would take place so soon.

And now Kamala Harris took one phone call that means Joe Biden’s time in office is almost up.

As Black Eye Politics reports:

During his four years in the role, former Vice President Mike Pence only called foreign leaders a handful of times.

In the past year there were no readouts of direct calls with the leaders of foreign nations from Pence.

Former President Donald Trump was principally the one who spoke directly with foreign leaders.

Yet Vice President Kamala Harris made her second phone call with a foreign leader.

She spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron, and previously talked with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Harris expressed to Macron “her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the United States and France and to revitalizing the transatlantic alliance,” according to a readout from her office.

Harris and Macron “agreed on the need for close bilateral and multilateral cooperation to address COVID-19, climate change, and support democracy at home and around the world,” according to the readout.

“They also discussed numerous regional challenges, including those in the Middle East and Africa, and the need to confront them together. The Vice President thanked President Macron for his leadership on the issue of gender equality and for France’s contribution to NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover,” the release said.

Harris will be far more important than previous vice presidents.

An aide told ABC News that Harris planned to continue to engage with world leaders.

“Politically, she’s a huge player. She’s got a good sense for the centers of gravity in the Democratic Party,” said Colin Dueck, an international security professor at George Mason University who has written about the role of presidents in guiding foreign policy.

“My guess is she will be used by Biden as a spokesperson and she will weigh in at different moments,” he added.

A longtime friend of Harris’, Lateefah Simon, told ABC News that “Kamala’s not taking a back seat at all.”

“Nothing about Kamala Harris is number two,” Simons added.

It’s already questionable whether Biden is in control or whether he’s already been sidelined.

At Biden’s age of 78 and with the noticeable gaffes that he commonly makes, many have questioned whether Biden was up to the task of being president.

In December, Biden joked that if he and Harris ever came to a “fundamental disagreement,” he’d “develop some disease and say [he has] to resign.”

Biden has already stated that he’d resign if he came into conflict with Harris. That indicates who’s really leading America.
